{"id":1969,"date":"2020-09-13T22:56:06","date_gmt":"2020-09-13T22:56:06","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.woas-fm.org\/?p=1969"},"modified":"2020-09-29T00:37:01","modified_gmt":"2020-09-29T00:37:01","slug":"woas-transmitter-update","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.woas-fm.org\/?p=1969","title":{"rendered":"Updated WOAS Transmitter Update"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>I am, for the moment, speechless &#8211; those who know me well recognize that this is NOT my normal state!\u00a0\u00a0<\/strong>I received a note and check from former WOAS-FM DJ Sam Bennett (son of my GM mentor Mike &#8216;Zenith&#8217; Bennett).\u00a0 Not only did Sam make a donation to our transmitter repair fund, he sent out a challenge to other former WOAS DJs do help out if they can.\u00a0 The nice things Sam had to say about WOAS-FM gave us a big lift as we strive to getting back on the air.<\/p>\n<p>As of 9-29-20 &#8211; the unit has been repaired and paid for with a &#8216;loan&#8217; from vending account we split with the Junior High Student Council.\u00a0 This means it is in transit and we are hoping it will be re-installed and functioning in the near future.<\/p>\n<p>As I told Sam in my return note, I respected and admired Zenith more than I can say.\u00a0 It seems that he wasn&#8217;t the only one in the Bennett family with a big heart!\u00a0 Will keep you all posted.<\/p>\n<p>(First update below)<\/p>\n<p>As of 9-14-20, our transmitter is repaired and we are waiting for it to return for re installation.\u00a0 The good folks at BEXT gave us a great deal on the bench charges and went out of their way to keep us informed.\u00a0 That is the good news.<\/p>\n<p>The bad news?\u00a0 Shipping came to $100 x 2 and the repair added up to $499.99 . . .\u00a0 to get it back, we were forced to borrow $400 from the shared JHSC \/ WOAS vending fund to get it returned.\u00a0 We are, at the moment, $400 in the hole.\u00a0 It will take some time for us to sell enough product in the vending machines to recoup the repair costs.\u00a0 Add to that the $400 internet service fee that will come due just before Christmas, and it means we are really $800 in the red ink before we have spent a day on the air.<\/p>\n<p>Perhaps this would be the time to do some form of public fund raising, but we are reluctant to with everyone in the same financial boat due to the you-know-what pandemic that we are still battling.\u00a0 With that said, I will leave the door open a crack.\u00a0 If one had a few extra bucks they would care to donate to our war chest, we would be more than grateful.\u00a0 Donations to WOAS-FM are tax deductible.\u00a0 Any amount would be of great help &#8211; and of course, if one has resources beyond their wildest dreams, we would gladly accept more . . .\u00a0 (now you know why we try to pay our way via recycling income and a couple of vending machines (which, by the way) are also struggling with school just getting started)).<\/p>\n<p>Donations can be sent to <strong>WOAS-FM\u00a0 \u00a0701 PARKER AVE\u00a0 \u00a0ONTONAGON, MI\u00a0 49953<\/strong> made out to\u00a0<strong>Ontonagon Area Schools &#8211; WOAS-FM.\u00a0 <\/strong>\u00a0We will acknowledge all donations once we have our heads above water, unless you ask your donation to be anonymous.<\/p>\n<p>Thank you for your time &#8211; stay well &#8211; we look forward to being on the air soon &#8211; our web presence will also be brought up to speed once the transmitter is re-installed.\u00a0 \u00a0Best regards &#8211; K.
