Michigan State Police Community Service Officer Geno Basanese of the Wakefield\u00a0MSP Post (center) does a test run with the driving simulator with (l-r) Isaiah Beck, Branden Betcher and Ryan Preiss.\u00a0 Trooper Basanese spent most of Friday March 11, 2021 guiding small groups of Ontonagon\u00a0Area Schools students through the simulator’s programs that demonstrate the hazards of driving impaired or while being distracted.<\/div>\n

The simulator\u00a0was brought to the school as part of the seventh annual\u00a0Strive 4 a Safer Drive public service campaign run by student volunteers of the OASD’s FM radio station, WOAS 88.5.\u00a0 The local PS campaign is called Don’t be Distracted and is funded by a $1000 grant from the State of Michigan and the Ford Motor Co.\u00a0 S4SD DbD wristbands were distributed to students who attended the demonstrations.\u00a0 Winners of the various contests used to raise the student’s awareness of the dangers of distracted driving will be announced in late March.\u00a0 More information about this year’s campaign can be found on the station’s website\u00a0www.woas-fm.org<\/a>\u00a0.<\/div>\n
