{"id":2837,"date":"2023-05-08T18:25:32","date_gmt":"2023-05-08T18:25:32","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.woas-fm.org\/?p=2837"},"modified":"2023-05-08T18:30:37","modified_gmt":"2023-05-08T18:30:37","slug":"woas-fm-senior-salute","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.woas-fm.org\/?p=2837","title":{"rendered":"WOAS-FM Senior Salute"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.woas-fm.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/10\/DJs-2022-23-scaled.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-medium wp-image-2668\" src=\"https:\/\/www.woas-fm.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/10\/DJs-2022-23-300x225.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"300\" height=\"225\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.woas-fm.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/10\/DJs-2022-23-300x225.jpg 300w, https:\/\/www.woas-fm.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/10\/DJs-2022-23-1024x768.jpg 1024w, https:\/\/www.woas-fm.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/10\/DJs-2022-23-768x576.jpg 768w, https:\/\/www.woas-fm.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/10\/DJs-2022-23-1536x1152.jpg 1536w, https:\/\/www.woas-fm.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/10\/DJs-2022-23-2048x1536.jpg 2048w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><\/a> (l-r):\u00a0 Graduating senior DJs Halle, Austin, Mason, and Will &#8211; the last in line, Matt is a Junior and we hope to have him back with us next year!<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0As the 2022-2023 broadcast year comes to a close, we would like to say a big \u2018thank you\u2019 and wish our seniors well in their future endeavors.\u00a0 Though our day shift was small, we were able to carry a full schedule throughout the past year.\u00a0 The first student volunteer we need to thank would be Matt Immonen.\u00a0 Even though Matt was not able to squeeze radio lab into his schedule this year, he was our most valuable player.\u00a0 It was Matt who made sure the station was on the air between 8:00 and 8:30 am each and every day.\u00a0 Matt performed his daily duty without fail and also found time to be part of the Strive 4 a Safer Drive &#8211; Don\u2019t be Distracted 8 (S4SD &#8211; DbD8) group this year.\u00a0 For his dedication, he is being recognized with the \u201cBradley\/Harrison \u2018Never Fail\u2019 Engineering Award.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0Back in March, I asked each of our DJs to answer three basic questions:\u00a0 1) Sum up your WOAS experience, 2) What surprised you about being a live radio DJ? And 3) What are your plans for the future?\u00a0 Here are their responses:<\/span><\/p>\n<p><b>Halle Floyd: <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">1) My WOAS experience was something that I will probably carry for the rest of my life.\u00a0 Not many people get the opportunity to air their own show on a public radio station and experience a different perspective of radio, even if we are a smaller community.\u00a0 I\u2019ll forever be grateful that the opportunity was given to me.\u00a0 2)\u00a0 What surprised me the most about working on the air as a DJ was the amount of work that actually goes into it and the technology behind the scenes.\u00a0 The entire process just to listen to music on the radio is mind blowing.\u00a0 3)\u00a0 After high school, I plan to attend Ferris State University to study Forensic Psychology and Biology.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><b>Mason Totzke: <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">1) My WOAS experience was one to remember, it was a great environment with a stellar supervisor (manager\u2019s note:\u00a0 there is a young man who knows which side of the bread to butter).\u00a0 Couldn\u2019t have had more fun.\u00a0 2) I was surprised at how quickly it became second nature talking on the air.\u00a0 At first it was awkward and the more I did it, the easier it was.\u00a0 3) I plan to attend Saint Norbert College in order to pursue my kinesiology degree.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><b>Austin Razmus:<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> 1) It was a fun experience.\u00a0 I found it interesting how the radio system works. 2)\u00a0 How much logging you had to do.\u00a0 3) My future plans are to one day own my own business.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><b>Will Immonen: <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u00a01)<\/span> <span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">My WOAS experience has been great so far. Throughout the year I;ve learned a lot and have enjoyed my time. 2) What surprised me about working on the air as a DJ is that it\u2019s a lot easier than it looks,\u00a0 Be yourself and all will be well.\u00a0 3) My future plans after I graduate is to work a summer job at the Porkies.\u00a0 From there with some job experience I will go into schooling for whatever I\u2019m passionate about, if I find out what that is.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0Each year, we recognize the DJs for their contributions to WOAS-FM and this year is no exception.\u00a0 This year\u2019s DJs were honored as follows:<\/span><\/p>\n<p><b>\u00a0Mason Totzke (12)<\/b><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">&gt; S4SD &#8211; DbD8 Team Member\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">&gt; Thomas G.
