{"id":3163,"date":"2024-04-26T22:23:16","date_gmt":"2024-04-26T22:23:16","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.woas-fm.org\/?p=3163"},"modified":"2024-04-28T22:28:30","modified_gmt":"2024-04-28T22:28:30","slug":"woas-senior-salute-2024","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.woas-fm.org\/?p=3163","title":{"rendered":"WOAS Senior Salute 2024"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0It is getting to be that time of the year when our senior\u2019s minds begin to look to the future.\u00a0 With the last marking period of the last semester of their school careers in progress, we begin to hear less of them on the air than we would like.\u00a0 It isn\u2019t like they are ignoring their duties;\u00a0 there are so many loose ends to wrap up prior to graduation, their schedules are not in their control over the last few weeks.\u00a0 With that said, we are extremely proud of the job they did at WOAS-FM 88.5 this year and will remind you to tune in sooner than later to catch them on the air while they still have time to be on the air.\u00a0 Before we know it, they will be set loose on the world beyond the walls of our domain (but certainly not forgotten).\u00a0 As usual, we asked them to give us a peek into their time at WOAS and what the future holds.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Matt Immonen<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> &#8211; Matt has been the backbone of our operation for the past two years.\u00a0 When we needed someone to open up the station and put us on the air every morning, Matt stepped up.\u00a0 The number of days he wasn\u2019t able to perform that function can be counted on one hand.\u00a0 That is a pretty low percentage and speaks to why he has been recognized as \u2018Mr. Reliable\u2019 for two years running.\u00a0 Matt said he was happy to be asked to help out and enjoyed being recognized for doing his job (and doing it well I might add).\u00a0 Matt would like to get into the Geology field and left future DJs with some great advice:\u00a0 \u201cDon\u2019t be scared to speak your opinion or even to talk on the air.\u201d\u00a0 Thank you, Matt.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Darius Manos<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> &#8211; Like all of our on-air seniors this year, Darius began the year as a rookie but progressed in his skills as the year rolled along.\u00a0 Even after he got his bell rung in football, he bounced back with no lasting effects to his DJ career.\u00a0 Darius tells us he got involved because, \u201cI like DJing and playing music on the air.\u201d\u00a0 When asked about the future, Mr. Manos said he plans to be \u2018working on a boat in Panama fishing\u2019.\u00a0 Thank you, Darius, we hope you catch some keepers.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Hunter Badgero<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> &#8211; Hunter tells us he got involved with radio because, \u201cI wanted to try something new.\u00a0 Listening to music and learning how to use the equipment were the things I enjoyed the most.\u201d\u00a0 Hunter plans to go to school and get into the welding trade.\u00a0 He advises new DJs to, \u201cListen to KER.\u201d\u00a0 Sound advice, Hunter, even if I do say so myself.\u00a0 We appreciate the great communication skills you exhibited all year.\u00a0 It always does the station manager\u2019s heart good to not be surprised if something isn\u2019t right with the gear and Hunter was one of our two DJs who always kept me informed.\u00a0 Best wishes, thanks, and good luck, Hunter.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Adam Immonen<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> &#8211; Adam\u2019s skill set was spot on right out of the gate earning him the honor of being this year\u2019s Student Manager at WOAS-FM.\u00a0 Like Hunter, he was an excellent communicator and kept me well informed when the schedule changed without my hearing about it in advance.\u00a0 I should also add that Adam and Hunter were exceptionally skilled at getting back to me (and nothing drives me bonkers more than texting, calling or emailing without getting so much as a \u2018thumbs up\u2019 so acknowledging\u00a0 the message went through).\u00a0 Adam said he was \u2018interested in learning radio\u2019 and he arrived at the station with the tools needed to be a good DJ and Station Manager.\u00a0\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0Adam tells us he enjoyed WOAS for a couple of reasons:\u00a0 \u201cLearning how to use radio and playing music I enjoy.\u00a0 Also having one last rodeo with KER.\u201d\u00a0 The last comment no doubt refers to the fact that Adam, Hunter, and Matt were part of the last sixth grade science class I taught before I retired.\u00a0 As for his future plans, Adam is headed to NMU and if accepted, he would like to work on an Automotive Service Certificate, otherwise he will look for employment at Trident.\u00a0\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0True to his managerial roots, he leaves the following message for future DJs:\u00a0 \u201cKER knows all so no funny business.\u00a0 Just do what you\u2019re told to do and everything will be fine.\u201d\u00a0 No doubt having a camera feeding to the station website (<\/span><a href=\"http:\/\/www.woas-fm.org\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">www.woas-fm.org<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">) has given the DJs the impression that I can read minds and see through walls.\u00a0 Thank you, Adam, it has been a pleasure working with you and we appreciate that you took your duties seriously.\u00a0 Good luck and best wishes to you.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0As our seniors get pulled in more and more directions the rest of us will have to step up and fill the gaps.\u00a0 WOAS-FM 88.5 will still be broadcasting well into June as we put the wraps on our 45th year of being YOUR SOUND CHOICE.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.woas-fm.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/04\/WEB-size-DJs-scaled.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-3168 aligncenter\" src=\"https:\/\/www.woas-fm.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/04\/WEB-size-DJs-300x225.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"362\" height=\"271\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.woas-fm.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/04\/WEB-size-DJs-300x225.jpg 300w, https:\/\/www.woas-fm.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/04\/WEB-size-DJs-1024x768.jpg 1024w, https:\/\/www.woas-fm.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/04\/WEB-size-DJs-768x576.jpg 768w, https:\/\/www.woas-fm.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/04\/WEB-size-DJs-1536x1152.jpg 1536w, https:\/\/www.woas-fm.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/04\/WEB-size-DJs-2048x1536.jpg 2048w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 362px) 100vw, 362px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">PHOTO:\u00a0 The soon to be departing WOAS FM Senior DJs are (l-r) Matt Immonen (front right), Student Manager Adam Immonen (back middle), Darius Manos (missing), and Hunter Badgero (back, second from left).\u00a0 Others are our NelComm DJs &#8211;
