WOAS FM 88.5, the Ontonagon Area Schools radio station, by was recently notified they will be receiving a $1000 grant to conduct a safe driving campaign.  This marks the eighth consequence year the station has been involved in this statewide program called Strive 4 a Safer Drive, or S4SD for short.

The grant is offered by the Ford Motor Company in collaboration with MDOT.  There are 37 schools participating this year and Ontonagon will be the only Upper Peninsula school taking part.  The Public Service project run in Ontonagon is called Don’t be Distracted (DbD8 this year).
The WOAS FM DJs shown (l-r Halle Floyd, Austin Razmus, Mason Totzke, Will Imminent, and Matt Immonen) will be the core volunteers in this student driven project.  Art instructor Betsy Guilbault is busy recruiting more volunteers to create contest coloring pages.  Station Manager Ken Raisanen has reached out to several other OASD Staff members to help guide students who will be submitting work to the DbD8 art based contests.
