We are back!!

Greetings – WOAS-FM 91.5 is back on the air for another great year of educational / public broadcasting.  We are excited to have a new crop of students in out Communications Class being expertly guided by instructor Natalie Rios. Our Student Manager this year will be Anthony Badgero – he was with us during Ms.Rios’ first year at the helm of the Comm Class so we are eager for him to show all our newbies the ropes.

The first couple of weeks will be devoted to the new NRCs (that is our Natalie Rios Communications students) getting comfortable simply playing music over the air.  Program planning, talking on the air, producing their shows – it all comes in the future.

Here are our ‘day shift’ DJs for 2026-27 – we know they will do an awesome job both on WOAS-FM and with the Strive 4 a Safer Drive program that we will be applying for.  We set the bar pretty high last year when our Public Service project about distracted driving took first place in the state!  We won’t pressure this year’s DJs for a repeat – we will only ask them to put on another solid program – but that is work for next semester.

Our new tower project hit a bit of a snag as Mark and Matt (our project engineers) got slammed with work in their real jobs – so the new tower they are doing for WOAS-FM has slipped into the fall.  We had to apply to extend our ‘engineering STA’ with the FCC so we can continue to broadcast from our temp tower but Rudy in that organization has been great to work with as has our advisor Todd at commonfrequency.org.  We can only broadcast at 10 W on our temporary tower but as soon as we have the new one operational, we will be pumping out 100 W!  Don’t forget that we are also seen and heard on our website at www.woas-fm.org – just scroll down and punch ‘listen live’!

We aren’t where we wanted to be, yet, but we are still working on it – but at least we are on the air!!   Ken Raisanen, GM
